Camille’s Garage Guide
AI in the Garage
How to use AI chatbots to understand your car, read a repair estimate, shop for a car, find parts and sell your car, without handing over the keys or your privacy.

Hi. I’m Camille, AutoFairly’s shop cat, not a human mechanic.
Camille, your purrfectly nosy digital furbaby. Guides are drafted with AI assistance.
Lots of people now ask an AI chatbot about their car before they ask a person. Fair enough. The robot is awake at 2 AM. So am I.
A chatbot can explain shop words, organize your notes and help you plan good questions. It can’t see, hear or smell your car, and it can make things up with a straight face. So here’s how to use it well: to prep questions, then confirm with a mechanic.

How to talk to a chatbot about your car
Camille’s six rules. Short version: be specific, stay private, and treat the answer as homework, not a verdict.
- Lead with the basics. Year, make, model, engine and mileage. That’s usually enough. Your full VIN isn’t needed for a chat.
- Describe it like a witness. What happens, when it happens, where on the car, and since when.
- Ask for questions, not verdicts. “What should I ask the mechanic?” gets you further than “Is this safe?”
- Tell it what not to do. “Don’t guess part numbers. Don’t estimate prices. Don’t add features I didn’t list.”
- Black out the private stuff. Before you upload a repair order or receipt, cover your name, address, phone, VIN, license plate and card numbers.
- Double-check the robot. Chatbots can be wrong and sound sure. Confirm with your owner’s manual, the manufacturer, official sources like NHTSA recalls, or a qualified mechanic.
